(Youth- Special) Rev. Josiah Parker- “There's Still a Fire in These Ashes”

A powerful call to rekindle the Pentecostal fire burns at the heart of this impassioned message. Drawing from 2 Timothy 1:6, we're challenged to "stir up the gift of God" that dwells within us—the Greek word anazapurio literally meaning to rekindle or reignite.

The sermon confronts a dangerous narrative circulating today: that Pentecostalism is dying, that the Spirit doesn't move like in previous generations, that healing and spiritual manifestations are relics of the past. But these claims contradict the unchanging nature of God and His promises. The same Spirit that ignited historic revivals remains available to us now, like embers still burning beneath the ashes of a campfire.

We've survived too long on stories of past outpourings while neglecting to seek our own encounters with the living God. Revival doesn't begin in emotional breakout services but in the secret place—your personal prayer closet. The gifts of the Spirit (healing, prophecy, tongues) aren't outdated curiosities but essential expressions of God's power meant for every believer, every service. Churches should be places where the unsaved tremble under God's presence, where bondages break, and where the sick are healed.

Young believers especially must take up this torch. Don't blame older generations for not "getting in the Spirit"—pursue God for yourself. Don't let it be said that Pentecostalism died on your watch. The time has come not to give up our spiritual heritage but to stir it up through dedication, prayer, and holy living. Are you ready to move beyond stories to experience the power of God firsthand?

Speaker 1:

Hey everybody, this is Brother Jacob Bishop from Waynesville, ohio, coming to you on behalf of Holiness Preaching Online. Today we want to present to you another wonderful sermon from a great Pentecostal holiness preacher. So, wherever you are, sit back and prepare to be blessed by the word of God. Thank you all, and may God keep you and bless you today. Come on, there's still victory. Come on.

Speaker 2:

I say I know it's a Sunday morning, but we can still get in and worship God. I know it's a Sunday morning, but I'm here to tell you right now there's still healing in the name of Jesus. The world would like to tell you there's not healing anymore. I said I've heard preachers say there's no healing anymore. I heard preachers say that you can't be delivered anymore.

Speaker 2:

But I'm here to tell you right now that that's the report of the enemy and there's a report of the Lord and it's going to tell you that there's freedom. It's going to tell you that there's victory. It's going to tell you that there's power. In the name of Jesus, come on, it's a Sunday morning, but I believe we can get in the Word. We're having a good service right now, but I believe we can get in the word. We're having a good service right now, but, as, as brother Hurst says, the spirit. When we say we're worshiping in spirit and truth, it includes the word. So I'm I hate to, I hate to. Well, actually it's not stopping. The spirit's still going to be moving. But I'm going to open up my scriptures.

Speaker 2:

Uh, if you have your Bibles scriptures, if you have your Bibles, if you have your Bibles, open up to second Timothy one and six. Sorry, little backstory of this scripture. Paul is talking to Timothy and Paul's in a place where everybody's left him. Paul's in a Roman prison and he's talking to Timothy and he's trying to pass on the torch. He's trying to pass on the spirit and he tells Timothy. He said remember to stir up the gift of God, that is only by the putting out of hands. The verse right here is 2 Timothy 1 and verse number 6. It says Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God which is in thee, by the putting on of hands.

Speaker 2:

As I was studying, going over this scripture, the stir up, that part's what. That's the part that stuck out to me. So, as Brother Hurst would want me to do, I went to Strong's looking for the Greek, and the Greek is anazapurio, and that word means to rekindle or reignite, and I believe in this day and age, we've got to rekindle and we've got to reignite some things. Come on, we've survived too long on ashes and rev. Reignite some things. Come on, we've survived too long on ashes. And revivals from the past, come on, the stories are not enough. I'm all for the stories, I'm all for the testimonies, but I'm telling you right now, it's got to be for today. I'm telling you right now, stories are just stories. Come on, we're raising a generation just on stories. We're getting rid of the experience and we're just talking stories.

Speaker 2:

I grew up hearing stories, but you've got to get it for yourself. I studied in brother miles class, where he had a study in philosophy and a peculiar person, platoism. Plato had a philosophy that the ideas were the reality and that the physical was just an image of the reality. But my thing, right here I'm saying that's wrong. The ideas are just ideas, the stories are just stories. But until we put that into an experience and we put that to the word of God and we get it for ourselves, all we have is a story and all we have is an idea.

Speaker 3:

Come on, you got to put it to the plow.

Speaker 2:

It's not. We stop just talking about it and we start experiencing it. Come on, the word of God says to stir up the gift. Old revivals are great, but old revivals are exactly that they're just old revivals. This church has been through many of those such revivals. Our week long revival With Robert Martin out Martin out here talked about all the time, but as good as it was, and as powerful as it was. It's an old revival. There's new revival. Come on, I don't want to die. I don't want Pentecostalism to die.

Speaker 3:

I heard people say that this is the last generation of Pentecostalism?

Speaker 2:

It's not. There's still power. There's still power. It's not time to shut it off or to put it in a drawer, but it's time to take it out.

Speaker 2:

Come on, there's still power. I've heard it said. I've heard it said this part's to young people. I've heard it said this parts to young people. I've heard it said by an older generation and not you guys, but I've heard it said the young people Don't get in like they did in my day. Or the spirit doesn't fall like it used to, or it'll never be like it used to be.

Speaker 2:

And again, I said I heard it said this is the last generation of pentecost, and I've heard it said they'll never get it Like we got it. Have you guys heard some things like that? Oh, it'll never be like it was in the 70s. It'll never be like it was at asbury. It'll never be like it was at the great awakenings. We'll never have healings anymore. We'll never have feelings like we did. We'll never be so drunk in the spirit that we don't know what's going on. We'll never be so deep into the spirit that we don't care what's going on.

Speaker 2:

I've heard it said time and time and time again. But young people and old people alike, it's time to prove them wrong. It's time to say I've got a spirit that's still alive, and it is the same spirit of the old revivals. It is the same spirit of Iceberry. It is the same spirit of the first and second great awakening. It's by the same spirit. Make the stories and the revivals that you've heard reality. Don't rely on past experience. I went through years. We're lying on the spirit. I fell at youth camp. I went for years surviving on old wine. There's new wine. The new wine is the same wine and I'm here to tell you right now it's still for today. Somebody's got a fire. Those stories are a pile of ashes. That's my title. There's still a fire. Those stories are a pile of ashes. That's my title.

Speaker 1:

There's still a fire in these ashes.

Speaker 2:

It's just a pile of ashes. And when I was working on this sermon I began to think of when I went camping when I was younger and I'd wake up earlier than everybody else Because I wanted to look at the ashes and I wanted to walk over and I wanted to stick a stick in it and start messing it around, stirring it around, stirring it around. But sooner or later, when you start doing that, there's a fire. If you stick your hand in those ashes, you'll realize it's still burning.

Speaker 3:

If you stick your hand in that ashes.

Speaker 2:

You're going to get hurt. Something's going to happen. There's going to be a reaction to that fire, and when you begin to stir it up, and when you begin to stir it up, it'll start to burn.

Speaker 2:

I hear them talking about how stirring it up is wrong and stirring up a revival is wrong. But I'm here to tell you right now, according to the word of God, that's what we're supposed to do. They'll say I'm just emotional or I just want to be hype, or I just want to get in, and it's all about the emotions and it's not about the word of God. But my Bible says to stir up the gift of God. My Bible doesn't say to sit on a pew and not ever get up and worship. That's not what my Bible says. And I'm not here to tell you that revival starts in just a breakout service. That's a lie of the enemy. That that revival starts in just a breakout service, that's a lie of the enemy. That you've got to have a breakout service to start revival.

Speaker 2:

Revival starts in your own personal time. Revival starts in your prayer closet. The fire doesn't get stirred up right here. The fire doesn't get stirred up with a loud song. The fire doesn't get stirred up with an anointed message. The fire gets stirred up when you set aside time and you say I'm gonna read that word of god, I'm gonna spend time with the lord, I'm gonna get that personal relationship. That's where the fire starts. Come on. It's time that we stop relying on an outpouring. It's time we stop relying on a song to get the spirit for ourselves. Somebody's got to say I'm going to stir that flame.

Speaker 1:

Somebody's got to do it or it's not going to get stirred. And God will have somebody to do it?

Speaker 2:

Who's going to call an all-night prayer meeting for revival? Who's going to fast for revival Brother Jarvis talks about at the beginning of every year. He sets aside time for us to fast. But who's going to fast for revival? Who's going to lay aside hidden sin? Come on, in order for us to have revival, some things have to be stirred up that aren't the ashes. Come on, you've been worrying about it and you're saying why ain't I experiencing revival? Why ain't I being filled with the Spirit? But let you hide sin. Personal experience. You may feel anointed at some times in your ministry and God may use you at certain times, but if you have hidden sin in your life, you're on the way to hell. Come on, you're not going to experience true revival with hidden sin in your life. Come on, statistically, there's some in here. That's why I'm saying it. I know this is a good church, this is a spiritual church, but statistically, some of y'all got some things hidden and that's got to get stirred up.

Speaker 2:

I went for years thinking the gifts of the Spirit were kooky. I went for years thinking it was just a thing the charismatics did, and we tried so hard to not be recognized with charismania that we've put away the gifts of the Spirit. Come on now. They're still for today. I went for years not even knowing what the gifts of the Spirit. Come on now, they're still for today. I went for years not even knowing what the gifts of the Spirit were. Come on, that's my fault, probably, but I went for years pushing them away or pushing them back, but the gifts of the.

Speaker 2:

Spirit are still for today. It's not just a wild service where people lay hands on and people are healed. It's not just a wild service where we have tongues and interpretation. It's not just a wild service where somebody walks up to you and they speak a word to you, something they ought not know, that they shouldn't know.

Speaker 3:

It's not just a wild service, the gifts of the.

Speaker 2:

Spirit aren't just for a revival service. The gifts of the spirit should be in every service. I'm done with a sinner walking to our church and not knowing we're a Pentecostal church. I'm done with the sinner walking in and not knowing that the spirit is still reaching out. Come on, when can they walk in and not tremble under the power of the? Come on, when can they not walk in and not tremble under the power of the? Come on. When can they not walk in and not tremble? I want to see the gifts of the.

Speaker 3:

Spirit.

Speaker 2:

I want to see the healings. I've been praying about this for weeks Because this sermon was laid on my heart Specifically for my church. When are we going to see healings again? When are we going to see outpourings again? There's people that have not been filled with the Holy Ghost that are here right now. It's God's will to fill you. He's not going to offer you the Spirit and hand you a rock. He's not going to offer you the Spirit and hand you a rock. He's not going to offer you bread and hand you a stone.

Speaker 2:

It's still for today and I want to see the breakout services. I want to see the people filled with the Spirit. I want to see souls saved. Isn't that what we're pushing for? Souls saved when can they walk in? And we never even talk to them. They'll sit on the back pew and they'll sit through the whole service and not feel invited into the house of God. There's bondages that have been on church goers For their whole time coming to church and they're not free. Still, you've been sitting on the church pews and you're bound.

Speaker 2:

I'm not just saying this. I don't say this often, but I believe God has laid this specifically On my heart. There's people here today With bondages and they're still stuck and they've been in church for years. There's people here today that have stopped believing for their healing. Come on, don't we believe in healing? Don't we believe that we can lay on hands and the sick can be healed? Don't we believe that we can lay on hands and the lame can walk and the blind can see? Isn't that what we believe? I'm going to say it again, and this is my closing the spirit of old, those old ashes, that fire that's still in it, is still for today.

Speaker 2:

Why don't you come in and you start to stir it up? Come on, young people. Don't let it be said that the spirit fizzled out in your generation. Don't let it be said that Pentecostalism ended with you. Come on, you've got to get in for yourself. If you're saying the old people aren't getting in, is that what? If you're saying the older generation isn't getting in and that's hindering you, forget about that. Get in for yourself. Forget about it. Worship for yourself. Forget about it. Get in the spirit for yourself. Come on now. It's not time to give it up. It's time to stir it up. Come on.

Speaker 2:

That's my altar call Come right now if you need a move of God in your life, If you need healings, if you need saved, if you need bondages broken if you need a revival, and that's all of us. Let's come to the front.

Speaker 1:

Let's pray, kneel or stand, it doesn't matter, but the spirit can still fall on a Sunday morning.

Speaker 3:
